It's Hard to Be a Gasboy

Before you think I've gone off and changed careers, check out this adorable online game from miniclip. As you get better, your customers become more demanding, asking for car washes, air in their tires, sandwiches and coffee. Who knew that being a gasboy could be so stressful! Enjoy!

a New Macmini

Microwarehouse had its mid-year sale this weekend. It was much quieter than last December. And during that sale in December, I was eying a macmini that was selling for Php12,500! It was an old one, using a powerPC chip versus the new Intel core duo ones. My boss beat me to it.

This june, the sale wasn't as low as that but I thought it was about time Via got a new machine. Her old thinkpad is performing way too slow... and of course I wanted her to join the mac/apple bandwagon too. :)

So we got the macmini last thurday. I was able to do a 12 month - 0 interest installment since microwarehouse is a sister company of Novare. That made it easier on the pocket. The price was about 7k off the market price. It is a 1.6Ghz intel core duo with 80GB and a superdrive. We drove to a some house/office in QC (seen in tipidpc.com) to get a RAM upgrade to 2gb. And having to open the macmini to install the RAM is another story all together.

But the order of the day was to install Sims 2. Our original PC CDs have been gathering dust and needed to be played again. Since these are Windows CDs and not MacOS ones, I thought that I could capitalize on the fact that the macmini is intel based and have options to install Windows!

After spending a night installing Sims 2 on Parallels, it didn't work. I researched a bit and saw that Parallels doesn't support 3D games yet, but it said they will in the near future. So I had to install apple's boot camp instead. This means having to partition a part of the hard disk to be dedicated to Windows. It was a fast install and I must say, it's running pretty fast too. Now Via is having fun playing with her Sims again, seeing more animations than her Thinkpad could handle before. This just made my day, seeing how her face lit up when she heard the Sims2 opening sequence play.

92.3 XFM

I saw the logo of this station in stickers or posters around town. I didn't mind it at that time since the logo didn't indicate any information as to what the radio station was about. But last monday, while walking in makati, I saw those moving advertisement trucks which had a huge ad for XFM.. it said something like: "this is the way to chill"

Being a "chill out" music fan this made me tune in. Who knew those ads worked? Anyway, I'm very happy tuning in. XFM plays electronica, acid, dub, house.. which could be all considered as chillout music. During that time radio ads were sparse. This reminded me of Anton ramos' experimental radio station hack. Non-stop music, with the occasional obb. check it out streaming over the web.

Via's 30th Bday Weekend

Happy Birthday my love! :) Hope you enjoyed this weekend as much as I did.

We took advantage of the long weekend by staying in Mandarin Hotel for 2 nights. We checked in June 8. I surprised Via with roses and a gift when we entered our room. (see picture). And she was also surprised by Jay's gift a lovely bouquet of pink roses which she ordered online and sent to the hotel. That night Candy and Mica invited us for dinner at Chelsea in Serendra. Padu and Goddy were there and we really enjoyed the wine and the food. Our dinner started out with Cheese fondue then the main dishes arrived: duck and mushroom risotto, crusted seabass, moroccan-style lamb, and shrimp pizza. The seabass and the risotto were everyone's favorite, the lamb wasn't much of a hit. Good food and good company made the night memorable.

The next day started with a sumptuous breakfast buffet at paseo uno and the in-laws checking in for the night. At around 2pm frannie and I went swimming, waiting for the rest of the family to come. Franco, Paolo and Fern followed while Via had a facial at the spa in mandarin with friend Gretchen. At night we ended up having dinner with the family in NanoHana, a japanese resto in Valero.

Sunday, June 10, was checkout day. That night we had mass with my mom and had Crab dinner at Claw Daddy in Shargrila Mall. A nice way to end the weekend. Happy birthday my love. Thanks to everyone who made this weekend memorable.
