Time Chamber?

Aside from feeling like I live in the airport, being in the hospital screws up your body clock. You try to sleep at a decent hour only to be waken up at midnight to get served your medicine or be checked for your blood pressure. Then at 4am a nurse comes in to do the same routine. At 6 your breakfast comes in and 45 minutes later it gets pulled out. Now there is the numerous tests, blood extractions, etc.

It seems like there is someone who comes into the room every 30 mins during the day and maybe the longest lull time is 4 hours. How can they expect the patient to get any rest?? So sometimes you sleep at noon then wake up at 2pm. Then can't sleep until 1am.

So this has been the routine here for a while. Via is recovering... but not as fast as we want to. We both want to go home and get a good night's rest. Thanks for all the messages and prayers.

In the hospital

Last friday, after being sick with high fever, cough and shortness of breath for a week, we decided to bring Via back to the hospital for consultation. Via convinced the Pulmonologist to have her admitted so that she could see what's wrong with her. So we have been in the hospital since then and Via has been battered with tests and needles. They diagnosed her with bacterial pneumonia. Hopefully with the antibiotics she is being given, we could be discharged from the hospital by tomorrow.

Living inside the new Medical City hospital feels like living in an airport. You have most of the things you might need just an elevator ride away.. and hey they even have WiFi in the lobby. :)

Still Sick :(

What a week! Been down with nasty flu since Wed. night and this killer cough that keeps me awake at night. Noel finally took me to the ER of Medical City today so we could rule out dengue, typhoid or viral infections. Turns out this is bacterial so am on antibiotics for 7 days. Please God, make me well. I will learn to make better use of my energy and not think I am Wonder Woman. :( And I'm the one that loves to sing that sappy jingle: "Bawal magkasakit." (It's forbidden to get sick. It's a radio ad for the multivitamin, Clusivol)

Friendster in Japanese

Last night was a really cool night, over red wine, beer, barbecue and some Mc Donald's, we got to know our new Japanese friends: Jun, Miko, Sato and Noburo. Mio, my co-teacher at Berlitz, who is Japanese, invited us for drinks to celebrate his moving into a new place. It was so interesting to find out about what they thought about living in Manila. Being the only Filipinos at their get-together last night, we felt a bit privileged to have been invited to their tight circle. The funniest thing was that they all met through the Japanese version of Friendster called Mixi. They asked to join, and Noel and I laughed, because they forgot that we couldn't read nor speak any Japanese. It felt like we were back in Ivrea somehow, where one of the main activities was to bring over a bottle of wine to a friend's place and just hang out. When Mio introduced me as the Italian teacher to his friends, one of them, Miko, started to talk to me in Italian! You can imagine how surprised we were to find out that he used to have an Italian girlfriend while he lived in China. So he speaks Korean and Mandarin as well. Sato showed us his guitar-playing skills while we cheered. (He was really good) And Jun was saying: "pogi points!" (If you close your eyes, it's an authentic Pinoy talking and not a Japanese) We had a really fun night last night, thank you Mio for inviting us! Hope this will only be a first night of many to come! :)

A Surreal Japanese Night

Still a bit tipsy from the wine we brought to a small gathering at Via's co-teacher's, who is Japanese. Mio and his Japanese friends invited Via over for some drinks to celebrate their moving in to a new place.

At first I was hesitant to go because I was afraid that we would be the only ones going. But I met Mio once and he seemed like a nice guy, so what the heck. Going there was an adventure in itself, we had to wait for Mio to comeback from McDo for dinner.

We finally met everyone, all Japanese, all met through the internet by way of their version of friendster. It was surreal since we were the only Filipinos there. There was Mio, Jun, Mico, Sato, and Noburu. All spoke to one another in Japanese and sometimes Mio had to translate for us. But they were very nice and warm. Jun in particular knew some words in Tagalog. It was very funny to hear him talk in our language.

We had fun tonight. It reminded us of the times we would mix with other nationalities abroad.

Sometimes Old-Tech is still better

I just made a horrible mistake when trying to reserve a hotel room online. Instead of booking for 2 people, I booked for 2 rooms! Imagine that, I got charged twice as much. Oh my... and its not like this is my first time to do this too.

Thank goodness there was a phone number we could call to correct this mistake. Thank goodness for Via's skills in fixing things. Thank goodness for good ol' person-to-person reservation system. Whew. That gave me a bit of a scare. The first time I tried this system my credit card was declined. Thank goodness for old-tech.
