Merry Christmas

« November 2005 | Main | January 2006 »

Simbang Gabi or Midnight Mass is a tradition here in the Philippines where families troop to church at about 430 am for nine mornings leading to the Eve of Christmas. At the University Noel and I attended, Ateneo, Mass is celebrated at night at 8:30pm, but the traditional fare of bibingka and hot chocolate (with other additions like chicken and barbecue) were also made available.
It was the first time for us to complete this tradition together. The Homily of Ateneo President Father Nebrez was especially moving as he spoke of the communities generosiy- providing hundreds of homes and food kits to people in need who suffered from different calamities. At the It was strange to feel a little sad that the Masses were over as they were not easy to attend every night- especially for Noel whose place of work is almost a good 2 hrs. away. At the end of tonight's Mass, fireworks were set off. And children were running around in the grass. Watching them, we felt a bit like kids ourselves- excited for Christmas Day.
I can dream can't I? :)

What's in your wish list this year? :)

Only in the Philippines will you find this kind of artwork- on the body of a Jeepney at that! :) At first, I wasn't really sure it was Elmo since his color was kind of well, off. And those front teeth... Then I wondered who the girl was whom he was perched on. Noel and I were giggling when we saw it on the road last Sunday on the way to lunch. You just gotta love those things found only in the Philippines!
Sometimes I just get stunned and can't proceed with my work. This afternoon was one of those days. I work with another web designer and a programmer. We have been working in parallel for the past couple of days. Everything was well until this afternoon. It seems like us designers were working on the same files as the programmer. As a result, we have to re-do our work.. since we prioritize functionality over beauty. It's been like this for sometime.. but with an impending deadline all we can do is forget it happened and go on.
For the web designers out there: Have you ever been through something like this? How did you fix the proccess?
"No flannel pajamas are allowed in the Bahamas..." This is what was playing on the radio a few nights ago while Noel and I drove home from the Immaculate Conception Mass. It sounded so lovely, too bad I can't find the rest of the lyrics from the web. It brought me back to our weeklong vacay in Boracay.
Thank you Mommy Vic for treating us to our own Island Christmas !!! :)
This is our 4th day in blissful Boracay. Noel and I were trying to put the finishing touches to our sandcastle- then suddenly we were pelted with little drops of water. Which later on turned into big drops of semi-serious rain. As I write, Noel is riding the waves in the ocean with our cousin Chris. And I am trying to untangle my hair using my niece Aiyana's toy rake. (Our hotel room is a good 10-minute trike ride away from the resort the rest of our family is staying at)
Enjoying WiFi from the poolside of Sea Wind Resort in Boracay... It's after lunch and we're too full and too tired to swim.. so I decided to blog instead. Here are some photos for you guys:
